“Ice Creek Lodge accesses some of the best big mountain terrain right out the front door. The lodge is in the heart of the action, and the people have a unique spirit for getting out and getting after it. Probably the sweetest backcountry touring lodge in the Kootenays.”

– Mitch Scott,
Editor, Kootenay Mountain Culture

Alpine terrain at Ice Creek Lodge is expansive and unique. The Devils Range alone is over 25km East to West with numerous pocket snowfields and small glaciers tucked into the high North facing cols. The towering granite spires of the Valhallas offer incredible climbing opportunities with a wide range of grades and levels of commitment required.

“After our trip to the Valhalla’s, standing back at our cars I felt as though I was at a concert and the lights were on, but I was not yet sober. The week went by too fast, and I was so jealous of the four boys who flew in as we flew out, about to experience a taste of heaven. It took me a week to come down off that high, and today I realized life goes on.”

Tree Line terrain in the Valhallas is varied and Ice Creek and surrounding drainages hosts a full array of aspects to work.

“I think the thing that separates Ice Creek from allot of places is their varied terrain. They have everything from high alpine big lines, to great glades through the tree’s, pillow lines, cliffs, pretty much everything you could ever want.”

– Chris Ankeny,

“This lodge is well situated with much of its terrain being on north facing slopes which is great for maintaining snow quality. We had a great week of backcountry skiing, in scenic mountainous terrain, with many long (thigh burning) descents on north facing slopes.”

Mountaineering and Steep Objectives

“It is rare I get the chance to work in an area that has such a diverse amount of terrian, big peaks, great trees and gnarly lines waiting for those perfect days. Ice Creek is a lodge run by skiers for skiers. Keep the stoke alive!!
